Reflections
Captured at Ocean Grove Beach, this photograph is a quiet record of one of my favourite rituals — heading into the cold winter water with the Mermaids.
I was drawn to the reflections rather than the swimmers themselves: flashes of colour stretching and dissolving across the surface as we waded into the ocean. The water distorts everything just enough to turn familiar shapes into something almost abstract.
There's something wonderfully simple about this moment. A row of feet, winter water, ripples and reflections — and the shared knowledge that we're about to do something that will leave us feeling better than when we arrived.
