Captured at the Ocean Grove Boat Ramp on the Bellarine Peninsula, this photograph is about looking a little closer.

Rather than capturing the boat ramp or the surrounding landscape in full, I zoomed in on three pelicans quietly moving across the water, with just a hint of the ramp in the foreground. The dark silhouettes of the birds sit against the soft pink and peach of the evening sky, creating a simple moment of colour, shape and stillness.

I love the way the familiar has been reduced to just a few details—the birds, the water, the distant shoreline and a fragment of the place itself. You know there's a boat ramp there, but it's almost incidental. It's the kind of view you might walk past without noticing, until you stop and look a little closer.
