Captured on the path down to Beauchamp Falls in the lush Otways along Victoria's Great Ocean Road, this photograph is a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful moments are the ones you almost miss.
Surrounded by the scale and richness of the rainforest, I instinctively looked up and noticed a single rust-coloured leaf catching the light. I was drawn to the way it sat against the layers of delicate fern fronds—the dark overlap, the unexpected flash of colour and the almost graphic geometry created by the shapes and shadows.
Rather than photographing the sweeping landscape around me, I wanted to isolate this tiny moment within it. A quiet detail, found simply by looking in a different direction.
